Quick answer
What Causes Sun Spots?
Sun spots, also called solar lentigines, liver spots or age spots, are flat, well-defined brown patches caused by years of cumulative UV exposure. They are most common after 40 on the cheeks, temples, forehead, hands and forearms.
UV light stimulates melanocytes to produce and concentrate pigment in exposed areas. Unlike freckles, sun spots do not fade in winter, and they tend to become larger and more numerous with age.
Sun spots are harmless, but some skin cancers and seborrhoeic keratoses can look similar. A spot that is raised, irregular, multi-coloured, growing or bleeding must be checked first. This is why a dermatologist-level examination comes before any laser. See also pigmentation.

FAQ
Sun Spots in Seoul – Frequently Asked Questions
How much is sun spot removal in Seoul?
At Doje Clinic, the cost of Sun Spots Treatment depends on the areas treated and the bespoke plan designed at your 1:1 consultation with Dr. Byun Je-ik, so prices are confirmed after the doctor's assessment. Message us on WhatsApp for an initial guide.
Are sun spots dangerous?
Sun spots themselves are benign. Some skin cancers can look similar, so any irregular, raised or changing spot should be checked by a doctor before treatment.
How many sessions do sun spots need?
Many sun spots fade after one or two laser sessions about four weeks apart. Spots on the hands may need more sessions.
What is the downtime after sun spot laser?
Treated sun spots usually darken and form crusts that fall off within five to ten days. Hands often take a little longer than the face.
Can I remove sun spots on a short trip to Seoul?
Yes, ideally with at least a week in Seoul so crusts can settle before you fly. Protect treated skin from sun while sightseeing.
Will sun spots come back after laser?
Treated sun spots may stay lighter for a long time, but new spots can form with further sun exposure. Daily sunscreen is the best prevention.
Do the doctors speak English?
Yes. English consultations are available at Doje Clinic, with LINE & KakaoTalk booking. Book on WhatsApp at +82 10-6535-2110.
